How Is A Hiking Pack Supposed To Fit? 

The fit of your hiking pack is fundamental to your comfort and safety for the long haul, helping ward off niggles and pressure points for comfort on the trail. Check out our top 6 tips for fitting your hiking pack correctly: 

1. Fit The Torso, Not Your Full Height: Measure your torso length (neck base to hip bones), not your total height. Choose a pack that matches or adjusts to this measurement.
2. Secure The Hip Belt: The hip belt should rest on your hip bones, not above or below. It should carry 80% of the pack’s weight, with the remaining 20% distributed at the shoulder straps.
3. Adjust The Shoulder Straps: The shoulder straps should hug your shoulders snugly, free of gaps, with the shoulder strap anchor points approximately 2.5cm - 5cm underneath the highest point of your shoulders.
4. Use Load Lifters: Tighten load lifters (located at the top of the shoulder straps and connecting to the top of the pack frame or body) to about a 45° angle to pull the pack closer to your body.
5. Fasten The Sternum Strap: Secure it at mid-chest height to stabilise the shoulder straps.

How Are Women's Hiking Packs Different?
