Since 1938 Scarpa has been setting the standard in performance outdoor footwear. Rooted in the mountain culture of northern Italy, Scarpa began as a cooperative of skilled leather craftsmen and bootmakers in the town of Asolo - aspiring to create the best shoes in the world. 

Scarpa was founded by Rupert Edward Cecil Lee Guiness, then purchased by the Parisotto family in 1956, with Luigi Parisotto having apprenticed at Scarpa, fine-tuning an expertise in handcrafting footwear. Scarpa stayed honest to their legacy of catering to the mountaineering and climbing boom of northern Italy in the 1950s, while taking their renowned quality, comfort and durability to the world in the decades to come. 

The brand’s name - SCARPA - is an acronym for Società Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima, which translates to “Associated Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area.” This heritage of artisanal expertise, coupled with a deep respect for the natural environment, remains central to Scarpa’s identity. Scarpa’s mission to “... sustainably create and produce the most innovative footwear, designed to reach any height,” reflects its commitment to pushing boundaries while protecting the landscapes that inspire exploration.

The company is a recognised leader in eco-conscious footwear manufacturing, using renewable energy in its facilities, reducing waste through thoughtful design and packaging, and integrating environmentally responsible materials (e.g. recycled or biodegradable textiles) across its product line.
