Kay's Gear Reviews

Meet Kay! With a passion for climbing, hiking and all things outdoors, she's always ready for her next adventure. Here's what she has to say about here gear of choice

Farpoint Trek

The Farpoint is originally designed with a male fit in mind, which is why I always find it essential to try on bags to ensure the most comfortable fit for my body shape. With my shoulder build, I had found that the men's fit was more comfortable for me.

The shoulder straps have multiple adjustable points, and the waist belt is padded, so my hips never got sore, even on multi-day hikes. My favorite feature was the full-length zipper that opens the front, making it easy to grab camping gear without creating a mess.

However, packing this bag requires some strategy. The main compartment needs to be packed carefully to balance weight and shape, and with just two compression straps, it can get bulky if you pack uneven items.

Wildfire Soft Flask

I had two of these: one for rationing water during the trek and the other for electrolytes. They're simple, easy to use and most importantly compact as I like to keep things lightweight.

2XU socks

Thin, light and all-round compression, it helped with the swelling of my feet during the daily 10k treks. They are also super absorbent and dries fast!

Fractal M-Series Cap Limited Edition

This is my go to hat for any outdoor outing, I mean it looks good and feels good! Did an excellent job dealing with my sweat and keeping me protected from the sun without getting hot.

Keen NXIS EVO Mid Waterproof Shoe

Keen's shoes have a wide fit, making them ideal for those with broader feet, allowing the toes to splay. My favorite part is how flexible and lightweight they are, so during Queensland summers, they’re not too heavy, and my feet stay cool and comfortable.
