From affordable sleeping bag liners to luxurious silk sleeping bag liners from Sea To Summit, we have your next adventure covered.
Stay cocooned in comfort with our must-read guide to choosing a sleeping bag liner from camping/hiking enthusiast and outdoor gear expert Ethan below.
Hey guys, Ethan here from Wildfire Sports & Trek. In the video above (and the guide below), I’m going to walk you through everything you need to know about sleeping bag liners.
What are sleeping bag liners good for, what materials do they come in, and why is it important to use them?
Sleeping bag liners are not essential to your camping experience, but they are highly recommended for three main reasons:
Sleeping bag liners are essentially mattress covers for your sleeping bag. They catch all your odour, body oils and dirt from your time outdoors and prevent them from damaging and dirtying your bag over time. This is especially important for duck and goose down sleeping bags, as the oils your body produces can affect the insulating properties of your gear.
We see sleeping bag liners as an investment, ensuring longevity and care are put into your camping gear. On top of this, some liners can add warmth to your sleeping setup, like the Sea to Summit Reactor sleeping bag liner range. Additionally, these can be extremely helpful for travelling through hotels, hostels and motels, allowing you to sleep in a clean, familiar sheet instead of an unknown bed.
The Sea To Summit Comfort blend sleeping bag liners are made of a TENCEL polyester blend and are the best value for money. They are breathable and geared towards warmer climates. However, they are not great for backpacking as the largest and heaviest option. The Sea To Summit Comfort Blend sleeping bag liners are available in:
The Coolmax Sea To Summit Breeze sleeping bag liners are designed for hot climates and humid weather. They dry quickly and wick moisture through the fabric while you sleep, allowing for a cool night's rest. The Breeze liner is also the roomiest of the Sea To Summit models and is great for those who like an unrestricted sleep. These can also be used without a sleeping bag. Opting to use just a liner can save weight and space, and it works wonderfully in hot weather.
The Sea To Summit Breeze sleeping bag liners are available in:
The Sea To Summit Reactor sleeping bag liners are the brand’s cold-weather solution. These are designed to add warmth and insulation to your sleep system while also keeping your sleeping bag clean. They come in three temperature ratings, ordered from least to most warm: the Reactor, Reactor Extreme, and Reactor Fleece (now sold out).
All three Reactors are made from Thermolite, which is an eco-friendly polyester material that insulates your body temperature. The main difference with the Fleece option is that the Thermolite material insulates more warmth. The Sea To Summit Reactor sleeping bag liners are designed to retain heat, and therefore are available in either:
The Sea To Summit Silk Blend sleeping bag liner is a luxury liner that does not add much warmth, but is ideal for campers who prefer an ultra-soft sheet material. The liner is made from a silk and Thermolite blend, making it still insulate some warmth, but we wouldn't recommend this for extreme climates. This sleeping bag liner is also the smallest and lightest of all the options.
Wrap Up
All these sleeping bag liners are a great addition to your camping setup, and can even be used stand-alone in hot weather as a lighter alternative. Check out our recommendations below to help you choose the best sleeping bag liner for your next adventure.
